Union workers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on Wednesday ratified a new five-year labor contract that will provide them with a 14 percent wage increase over the life of the agreement.
Steve Jones, the president of the Atomic Trades and Labor Council, which represents 13 unions at ORNL, confirmed the ratification vote this evening.
Over the five years of the contract, workers will receive annual pay raises of 3, 3, 2.7, 2.7, and 2.6 percent, he said. In addition, each of the approximately 700 workers will receive a $1,000 signing bonus.
The contract takes effect immediately, but the first wage increase won’t go into play until April 2016.
The agreement includes a clause for a one-time health plan opener in which UT-Battelle, the government’s managing contractor at ORNL, can propose possible changes in the health benefits.
